Lead Game Designer on Sushi Slaps

Sushi Slaps is a Snapchat lens game made using Lens Studio.

Made as part of a hackathon while at LoveShark, I led the ideation session with the team, keeping the team focused on generating winning ideas. I then learned how to use Lens Studio, created the tentacle hand tracking and physics as well as made and animated 3D models.

Ideation

I organised and lead the ideation session with the hackathon team. We started with a research phase where we explored what Lens Studio could do and what competition we were up against. Then we did rapid collaborative ideation followed by a filtering round and ending with lightning demos and voting.

Step 1

Added hand detection and assigned a tentacle model to it.

Step 2

Tentacle has jiggly physics and interacts with the world.

Step 3

A shop was too complicated so we decided to theme the game around a sushi restaurant instead.

Step 4

Full gameplay loop. We adjusted the jiggle of the tentacle and improved the level design to make it easier to play. We created and added a hungry monster too.
